Global Adelie Penguin Populations on the Rise

A new paper out by lab PI, Heather Lynch, has been generating media buzz. This study, out in the most recent edition of ‘The Auk’, represents an important milestone in Antarctic science – the first ever global survey of Adélie penguins. To accomplish this, Dr. Lynch, along with collaborator, Michelle LaRue, searched through high-resolution satellite imagery of the 5500km of Antarctic coastline in search of penguin colonies. The study found multiple colonies previously unknown to science, and results suggest that, on a global scale, Adélie penguin populations are on the rise.

A written piece from the Wall Street Journal can be found here, in addition to a great interview with Dr. Lynch here.
